What Is Cryptocurrency?

Cryptocurrency is digital money that exists only online.
Unlike normal money, it is not controlled by a bank or government. Instead, it runs on a system called a blockchain, which is maintained by thousands of computers around the world.

This means:

  • No single person controls it

  • Transactions are public and verifiable

  • You control your own money directly

Why Do People Use Crypto?

People use crypto for different reasons:

  • To send money globally without banks

  • To store value digitally

  • To invest

  • To use decentralized apps (DeFi, NFTs, games)

The Risks You Must Understand

Crypto is powerful — but it’s not risk-free:

  • Prices can rise and fall very fast

  • Scams exist

  • If you lose your private keys, your money is gone permanently
